FOR SALE XTREME SPORT CAMERA GOGGLES FOR MOTOCROSS OR SNOW BOARDING
he last few seasons have sparked a revolution in POV (Point of View) imaging by members of the mountain recreation community. Everywhere we look, we see these antennae attached to tops of riders’ helmets, screwed on the end of modified ski poles, glued to the surface of their boards, even the underside of chairlifts. The range of views we are pointed to is infinite. Whatever your opinion on this phenomena, it must be observed that the ability to capture and share our experiences with such clarity and expediency has changed the game in the video industry.
Sacramento, CA based Liquid Image Company, makers of “Extreme Sport Cams,†has contributed a unique approach to the challenge of “where to put the camera.†Built into the frame of your goggles, this 1080p HD digital camera shoots full video with sound, along with 12.0MP still images. Stored automatically to the Micro SD card, this pair of goggles offers the user full opportunity to capture all the radness occurring in your field of view, no angle adjustment required. The LIC website, indicates that a 1080p HD version is now available.
Liquid Image Summit Series HD Video Snow Goggles – ON SALE for $299.99
Unlike other camera options on the market today, the Liquid Image Summit Series Video Camera Snow Goggles offer a unique display inside the goggles, visible to the user, which indicates which mode the camera is in and the recording status. Thus eliminating the question, “Am I recording, bro?†This, coupled with the extremely low profile appearance of the camera, allows the user to discretely slip around the mountain and amongst the crowds without looking like the staff videographer of the local newspaper. Most people I ran into didn’t even know I was recording until I pointed the feature out.
The goggles performed admirably in the damp conditions at the 2012 Legendary Banked Slalom. Baker did not disappoint with an intermittent mix of rain and wet snow that would challenge any goggle. The only notable difference between the Liquid Image and my stock setup was the weight and the field of view. The weight, or lack thereof, is really amazing considering the battery, camera and storage built into the goggles. If that mass could be concentrated inwards, towards the face, I feel that the overall distribution and the field of view could be improved.
As I hung around the start shack, I turned the camera on using the two easy to find operations buttons on the right side of the frame. Easy finger pressure and just the right size buttons made operating with gloves a cinch. A small, uninterrupted blue light inside the goggles indicates the operation status when I press to record. I can easily toggle between still and video imaging, and the operation confirmations are excellent features.
Back home, at the computer, is the download, edit, and upload part of the sequence of home movie making. Like most cameras these days, it takes a fairly fast and powerful computer to make good use of the product. Slow computers will have a hard time downloading the video. Once you have the data onboard your editing platform, its fair game; no additional software is required. I want to thank Mike Hardaker for the edit, he kills it. Thanks too, to the Mt. Baker LBS for the great course. If you think it looks like this come the finals on Sunday…you got another thing comin’.
Innovations like this one are a welcome addition to the tools available to mountain shredders everywhere. With a possible 711 minutes of video storage, or potential for over 19,000 still images, the maximum memory storage offered by the Micro SD/SDHC card (32GB) is ample. More than 2 hours of continuous record time is supported by a rechargeable 3.7V, 1200mAh Lithium Ion battery.
The technical features are not limited those mentioned here. A quick visit to Liquid Image’s website displayed the full range of video products offered by this exciting company. As their name might suggest, the company also makes a complete line of scuba goggles equipped with camera technology. New products include a WiFi equipped, mountable sports camera, and cameras designed specifically for motorsports and surfing.ETC.
