I LOVE MATH
Introduction:
“ I hate Math.” I often hear this statement when I was in elementary, but for God sake, until right now this, has been visiting me even when I am sleeping. There are so many people saying their favorite line when it is Mathematics time- “ Eeoww!, I hate Math.” In fact, I was one of them when I was in my first year of my college life. Since I hated Math, I never give time to study it. I found out that I can’t solve some Math problems. I am wondering why I find math as a complicated subject, but my friend whose happen to be a Math major student knows almost everything in Math, wow!
Instead of crying out in the corner and start thinking that Math doesn't matter, I asked myself about the things that I should do, books that I have to read, friends that I should be with just to be “good in Math.” But one thing I found out, the reason why I hardly deal with Mathematics is not that of the subject itself, it is because of my old favorite statement-“I hate Math.” This statement kills our interest in Math. Since we hate Math, we never give time to study Math, and if we stop considering it, it is hard to deal with it. Remember, Mathematics is not a difficult subject that is why a lot of people hated it, but rather it is hatred towards math that is why it becomes difficult to them.
So from that on, I stop saying “ I hate Math,” instead I changed it into “I love Math.” I found it very compelling, in fact, I made a song entitled "I love Math," and taught this song to my grade 1 students, a few years ago, but I didn’t know if they appreciated my voice.
Probably you’re one of the members of “ I hate Math, ” or if not, you often say, “ I like Math, but I find it hard” or whatever group you belong. I challenge you to change first your mentality towards Math. Mathematics is easy and enjoyable. Start saying “ I love Math” and start thinking the things you usually do when you love something. Because I believe, if I am not wrong, when you love something, you try to do it again and again, it is applicable in Math also. When you learn to love Math, you try practicing it again and again. This book is full of techniques and shortcuts that you can do by yourself. So all I can say to you is sit back and relax and enjoy your reading as you are starting to love math. Good Luck!
